Leah Childers is an Assistant Professor at Pittsburg State University in Pittsburg, Kansas.

Leah first heard about the phrase “contemplative mathematics” at the joint AMS/MAA meeting in January 2016. At the meeting, she realized that many of the techniques she was using in her classroom used contemplative pedagogy. Leah is passionate about teaching and always looking for new ways to meet the needs of her students. She has found that many contemplative techniques have helped her create safe learning environments where students know the instructor cares about their learning.

Leah received her Ph.D. in 2010 from Louisiana State University (advisor: Tara Brendle) in geometric group theory. Leah formerly taught at Pittsburg State from 2010-2013 and Benedictine College from 2013-2016.
